Compression of small text files [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Informatics, 2008
This paper suggests a novel compression scheme for small text files. The proposed scheme depends on Boolean minimization of binary data accompanied with the adoption of Burrows-Wheeler transformation (BWT) algorithm. Compression of small text files must fulfil special requirements since they have small context.

Arithmetic coding revisited

open access: yes, 1998
Over the last decade, arithmetic coding has emerged as an important compression tool. It is now the method of choice for adaptive coding on multisymbol alphabets because of its speed, low storage requirements, and effectiveness of compression.

Compressed Context Modeling for Text Compression

open access: yes2011 Data Compression Conference, 2011
In text compression, statistical context modeling aims to construct a model to calculate the probability distribution of a character based upon its context. The order -- $k$ context of a symbol is defined as the string formed by its preceding $k$ symbols.

Compressed full-text indexes [PDF]

open access: yesACM Computing Surveys, 2007
Full-text indexes provide fast substring search over large text collections. A serious problem of these indexes has traditionally been their space consumption. A recent trend is to develop indexes that exploit the compressibility of the text, so that their size is a function of the compressed text length. This concept has evolved into

A survey on data compression techniques: From the perspective of data quality, coding schemes, data type and applications

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Computer and Information Sciences, 2021
Explosive growth of data in digital world leads to the requirement of efficient technique to store and transmit data. Due to limited resources, data compression (DC) techniques are proposed to minimize the size of data being stored or communicated. As DC

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...
