Automatic texture segmentation for content-based image retrieval application

open access: yes, 2006
In this article, a brief review on texture segmentation is presented, before a novel automatic texture segmentation algorithm is developed. The algorithm is based on a modified discrete wavelet frames and the mean shift algorithm.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

The Goertzel Algorithm for the Extraction of Texture Features

open access: yesIEEE Robotics and Automation Letters
The detection of the properties of objects is essential to deal with the manipulation of objects with artificial hands and grippers. In particular, texture detection is a common challenge in robotics. In the quest for smooth and natural manipulation, response times in the order of milliseconds are needed.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

A New Visual Inertial Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) Algorithm Based on Point and Line Features

open access: yesDrones, 2022
In view of traditional point-line feature visual inertial simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system, which has weak performance in accuracy so that it cannot be processed in real time under the condition of weak indoor texture and light and ...

Multilayer deep feature extraction for visual texture recognition

open access: yesCoRR, 2022
Convolutional neural networks have shown successful results in image classification achieving real-time results superior to the human level. However, texture images still pose some challenge to these models due, for example, to the limited availability of data for training in several problems where these images appear, high inter-class similarity, the ...

Correlating motif analysis and morphological filters for surface texture analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In contrast to the mean-line based evaluation system, motif analysis and morphological filters are two techniques oriented to the characterization of functional properties of surfaces.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...
