Update of the risk assessment on emerging and novel brominated flame retardants in food
EFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 7, July 2026.Abstract
The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2012 risk assessment on Emerging and Novel brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in food. Since the previous Opinion, further information was collected for a total of 27 BFRs. The CONTAM Panel concluded that TDBPP, DBPNG and TBNPA are considered genotoxic and carcinogenic.EFSA Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain (CONTAM), Helle Katrine Knutsen, Agneta Åkesson, Vasileios Bampidis, Margherita Bignami, Laurent Bodin, James Kevin Chipman, Gisela Degen, Antonio Hernández‐Jerez, Tim Hofer, Christer Hogstrand, Stefano Landi, Jean‐Charles Leblanc, Kyriaki Machera, Evangelia Ntzani, Isabelle P. Alzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 6, June 2026.Abstract INTRODUCTION
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a tauopathy linked to repetitive head impacts. Factors influencing brain regional susceptibility to tau deposition and spreading remain unclear. METHODS
We used three datasets: [18F]flortaucipir positron emission tomography (PET) in 157 former professional American football players and 53 ...Tim L. T. Wiegand, Anna Rubinski, Leonard B. Alzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 6, June 2026.Abstract
The Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, reflecting two decades of major contributions to Alzheimer's research through open data sharing and longitudinal multimodal assessments. This review synthesizes 122 high‐impact studies using ADNI data or biospecimens from 2023 to mid‐2025 to ...Dallas P. Veitch, Melanie J. Miller, Shaveta Kanoria, Paul S. Aisen, Laurel A. EFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.Abstract
The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2018 risk assessment on polychlorinated dibenzo‐p‐dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin‐like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL‐PCBs) in feed and food, based on the 2022 WHO Toxic Equivalency Factors (WHO2022‐TEFs).EFSA Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain (CONTAM Panel), Helle Katrine Knutsen, Agneta Åkesson, Vasileios Bampidis, Margherita Bignami, Laurent Bodin, James Kevin Chipman, Gisela Degen, Antonio Hernández‐Jerez, Tim Hofer, Christer Hogstrand, Stefano Landi, Jean‐Charles Leblanc, Kyriaki Machera, Evangelia Ntzani, Isabelle P. Alzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 5, May 2026.Abstract INTRODUCTION
In Alzheimer's disease (AD), tau–neurodegeneration (T–N) mismatch has been proposed to reflect non‐AD processes such as transactive response DNA binding protein 43 kDa and vascular disease. We aimed to characterize the spatiotemporal trajectories of T–N mismatch that may reflect non‐AD progression.Xueying Lyu, Christopher A. Brown, Michael Tran Duong, Emma P. Alzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 5, May 2026.Abstract
Historically, imaging diagnostics in Alzheimer's disease (AD) have focused primarily on amyloid and tau accumulation; however, recent work suggests that neurometabolic and vascular dysregulation (MVD) may precede protein deposition and persist throughout the disease spectrum, preclinically and clinically.Juan Antonio K. Annals of Neurology, Volume 99, Issue 5, Page 1343-1353, May 2026.Objective
Though it is widely known that tau deposition affects brain structure, the precise localization of these effects is poorly understood, especially in relation to gyral and sulcal anatomy. We investigated whether tau pathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD) preferentially affects sulci, and particularly sulcal depths.Samira A. Maboudian, Corrina S. Fonseca, Adam C.
