Oxygen Sensing of Pt/PEO-TiO2 in Humid Atmospheres at Moderate Temperatures

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Here, we show that the presence of adsorbed water improves the oxygen-sensing properties of Pt/TiO2 at moderate temperatures. The studied interface is based on porous plasma electrolytic oxidized titanium (PEO-TiO2) covered with platinum clusters.

Phenol Adsorption from Dilute Aqueous Solutions by Carbons

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2003
The adsorption of phenol from dilute aqueous solutions by seven activated carbons and one non-porous carbon black is reported. It is confirmed that the equilibrium can be described by a modified Dubinin-Radushkevich-Kaganer equation, with ...

Heavy metal deposition and parameter change of soft contact lenses by exposure to particulate matter

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2023
Background Particulate matter (PM) is known to contain heavy metals and be harmful to the tissues and organs of the human body including the eyes. As such, in this study, the deposition of heavy metals from PM on soft contact lenses was examined, and ...

Atomistic insights into interactions between oxygen and α–Zr (101-1) surface

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2021
The oxidation corrosion is a crucial challenge for zirconium (Zr) alloys as cladding materials in fission power reactors. In the present study, a first-principles approach is employed for understanding behaviors of oxygen adsorbed on the Zr (101-1 ...

LIMITED OXIDATION OF IRRADIATED GRAPHITE WASTE TO REMOVE SURFACE CARBON-14

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2013
Large quantities of irradiated graphite waste from graphite-moderated nuclear reactors exist and are expected to increase in the case of High Temperature Reactor (HTR) deployment [1,2].

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Spin-polarized oxygen evolution reaction under magnetic field

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Here, authors demonstrate the ferromagnetic catalyst to facilitate spin polarization in water oxidation reaction. They find the ferromagnetic-exchange-like behaviour between the ferromagnetic catalyst and the adsorbed oxygen species.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Protein Adsorption on Various Plasma-Treated Polyethylene Terephthalate Substrates

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
Protein adhesion and cell response to plasma-treated polymer surfaces were studied. The polymer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) was treated in either an oxygen plasma to make the surface hydrophilic, or a tetrafluoromethane CF4 plasma to make the ...
