Therapeutic Apheresis for Intravenous Methylprednisolone‐Refractory Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in a Single‐Center Case Series

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in Uremic Toxins From 1991 to 2024

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Uremic toxins are a growing area of research in nephrology, with significant implications in the progression and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the management of end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD). This bibliometric analysis aims to evaluate the global research trends, key contributors, and the impact of publications in ...

Effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical control strategies in highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1, H5N8) outbreaks

open access: yesClinical Infection in Practice
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses H5N1 and H5N8 pose significant threats to animal and human health worldwide. In the absence of universally effective vaccines, non-pharmaceutical control strategies (NPCS) including surveillance ...

No, This is not a Circle

open access: yesCoRR, 2017
A popular curve shown in introductory maths textbooks, seems like a circle. But it is actually a different curve. This paper discusses some elementary approaches to identify the geometric object, including novel technological means by using GeoGebra. We demonstrate two ways to refute the false impression, two suggestions to find a correct conjecture ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cyclicity in families of circle maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper we will study families of circle maps of the form x↦x+2πr+af(x)(mod2π) and investigate how many periodic trajectories maps from this family can have for a ‘typical’ function f provided the parameter a is ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A Mutational Landscape in Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Overview and Prognostic Impacts

open access: yesDiagnostics
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) comprises 15−20% of pediatric leukemia and 35% of adult leukemia cases, requiring insights into prognostic factors of this disease to be an important aspect of diagnosis and treatment.

Plant Cytokinesis: Circles within Circles [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2011
The current model of the plant cytokinetic apparatus, describing it as being composed of treadmilling microtubules, is challenged by a new study showing that these microtubules display dynamic instability.
