Influence of road salting on the adjacent Norway spruce (Picea abies) forest

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2011
Winter deicing and traffic spreads salt to road-adjacent Norway spruce trees in the form of spraying and salt slops. Our use of Na36Cl revealed roots as the main pathway of salt uptake.

Numerical simulations of aeroelastic instabilities in a turbine-blade cascade by a modified Van der Pol model at running excitation

open access: yesApplied and Computational Mechanics, 2023
The onset and spread of flutter in a turbine blade cascade are numerically studied. Due to the application of the reduced-cascade model consisting of simple elements (springs, rigid bodies, linear dampers) and aeroelastic forces introduced by the ...

Understanding the illiberal turn: democratic backsliding in the Czech Republic*

open access: yesEast European Politics, 2018
Democratic backsliding in Central Europe has so far been most acute in Hungary and Poland, states once considered frontrunners in democratisation. In this paper, we explore to what extent developments in another key frontrunner, the Czech Republic, fit ...

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting

Torsion dissipated energy of hard rubbers as function of hyperelastic deformation energy of the Yeoh model

open access: yesApplied and Computational Mechanics, 2018
In this paper, we are proposing a new formulation of dissipated energy of hard rubbers as a function of the deformation energy expressed by the Yeoh hyperelastic model.

The helical domain of the EcoR124I motor subunit participates in ATPase activity and dsDNA translocation [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2017
Type I restriction-modification enzymes are multisubunit, multifunctional molecular machines that recognize specific DNA target sequences, and their multisubunit organization underlies their multifunctionality.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Effect of feed supplements on the occurrence of coccidia oocysts in the digestive tract of pheasants

open access: yesActa Fytotechnica et Zootechnica, 2016
The occurrence of coccidiosis is an enormous problem of pheasant farming. The aim of this study is to show, that this disease can be cured by unconventional dietary supplements.

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...
