The Myth of a Finno-Ugrian Community in Practice

Nationalities Papers, 2001
Scholars had already suggested the relationship of some Finno-Ugrian languages in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, but the linguistic affinity of the Finno-Ugrian languages was proven only at the end of the eighteenth century by two Hungarian pioneers of comparative linguistics, János Sajnovics and Sámuel Gyarmathi. Testing the Finno-Ugrian Suicide Hypothesis: Replication and Refinement with Regional Suicide Data from Eastern Europe

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2007
Multiple lines of evidence indicate specific genetic contributions to suicidal behavior. In particular, geographic studies support the Finno-Ugrian Suicide Hypothesis, i.e., genetic differences between populations may partially account for geographic patterns of suicide prevalence. Specifically, within Europe the high suicide-rate nations constitute a

ANCESTRY, GENES, AND SUICIDE: A TEST OF THE FINNO-UGRIAN SUICIDE HYPOTHESIS IN THE UNITED STATES

[Genetic structure of the Mari population and its genetic position in the system of other Finno-Ugrian population groups].

Genetika, 1997
The genetic structure of the Mari population was studied by genetic markers (ABO, TF, GC, PI, HP, ACP1, PGM1). Nei's GST statistic was 0.0192, showing that 1.92% of the genetic diversity in the Mari population can be attributed to the subdivision effect. Genetic distances between Maris and other Finno-Ugric groups were estimated.
