Using Different Approaches to Approximate a Pareto Front for a Multiobjective Evolutionary Algorithm: Optimal Thinning Regimes for Eucalyptus fastigata

open access: yesInternational Journal of Forestry Research, 2012
A stand-level, multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) for determining a set of efficient thinning regimes satisfying two objectives, that is, value production for sawlog harvesting and volume production for a pulpwood market, was successfully ...

Optimization of Wind Turbine Airfoil Using Nondominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm and Pareto Optimal Front

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2012
A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and response surface-based multiobjective design optimization were performed for six different 2D airfoil profiles, and the Pareto optimal front of each airfoil is presented.

Pareto Sums of Pareto Sets: Lower Bounds and Algorithms

open access: yesAlgorithmica
Abstract In bi-criteria optimization problems, the goal is typically to compute the set of Pareto-optimal solutions. Many algorithms for these types of problems rely on efficient merging or combining of partial solutions and filtering of dominated solutions in the resulting sets.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Induced Ranked Set Sampling when Units are Inducted from Several Populations

open access: yesStatistica, 2018
The method of ranked set sampling when units are to be inducted from several bivariate populations is introduced in this work. The best linear unbiased estimation of a common parameter of two bivariate Pareto distributions is discussed based on the n ...
