A Thermodynamic Model of Antiferroelectics and Its Application to Electric Field Induced Antiferroelectric‐Ferroelectric Transition in PbZrO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermodynamic model that incorporates ferroelectric, antiferroelectric, and antiferrodistortive orders of PbZrO3${\rm PbZrO}_3$ is established and parameterized based on experimental measurements and first‐principles calculations. We derive a Clapeyron‐like equation for describing the temperature‐dependence of critical electric fields for the ...

CO2‐to‐CO Conversion in a Gas‐Fed, Zero‐Gap, PEM Electrolyzer Enabled by Polycations and Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon‐Supported Cobalt Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A gas‐fed, zero‐gap, PEM CO2 electrolyzer is realized by incorporating PDDA+ ions onto the carbonaceous Co/N‐C electrocatalyst, with gaseous H2 and CO2 fed into the anode and cathode, respectively. Operating without an aqueous electrolyte, the system sustains a peak FECO of 65.1% at 100 mA cm−2. ABSTRACT Electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction (ECO2R)

Universal validity of the second law of information thermodynamics

open access: yesnpj Quantum Information
Adiabatic measurements, followed by feedback and erasure protocols, have often been considered as a model to embody Maxwell’s Demon paradox and to study the interplay between thermodynamics and information processing.

The Connection between Logical and Thermodynamical Irreversibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
There has recently been a good deal of controversy about Landauer's Principle, which is often stated as follows: The erasure of one bit of information in a computational device is necessarily accompanied by a generation of kT ln 2 heat.

Ultrathin Amphipathic Dual‐Polymer Networks: Unlocking Hyper‐Permeable CO2 Capture via Solvent‐Mediated Poly(Ethylene Oxide) Amorphization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrophilic PEO‐copolymers and hydrophobic PDMS are physically integrated via a compatibilizing solvent into an amphipathic dual‐polymer network with versatile interfacial affinity and completely amorphized PEO segments for hyper‐permeable CO2 transport.

Accelerated Discovery of Topological Spin Phase Diagrams in CrSBr Magnets Via High‐Throughput Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we develop a high‐throughput algorithm that accelerates the elucidation of phase diagrams of topological spin textures using limited computational resources at high numerical accuracy. Applying this framework to the van der Waals magnet CrSBr, we unveiled a hierarchy of previously unknown topological textures (domain‐wall bimerons, bimeron chains,

The Second Law and Entropy Misconceptions Demystified

open access: yes, 2020
The challenges and claims of hypothetical violations of the Second Law of thermodynamics have been a topic of many scientific, philosophical and social publications, even in the most prestigious scientific journals.

Causality, response theory, and the second law of thermodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We show that there is a close connection between the assumption of causality and the second law of thermodynamics. We also show that for a class of classical reversible deterministic systems it is overwhelmingly improbable either to find causal steady ...
