Evaluation of the natural vertical transmission of Theileria orientalis

Veterinary Parasitology, 2018
Bovine theileriosis, caused by Theileria orientalis, is endemic from East Asia to Oceania. Even though the disease is mainly transmitted by Haemaphysalis ticks, the T. orientalis parasite can also be transmitted vertically. To develop proper control measures, the frequency of each transmission route must be elucidated.

The first survey of Theileria orientalis infection in Mongolian cattle

Veterinary Parasitology, 2011
In the present study, we have surveyed the presence of a bovine Theileria protozoan, Theileria orientalis, in Mongolian cattle and engorging tick populations from selected provinces and districts in Mongolia. The percentages of infection in the cattle and ticks ranged from 8.8 to 66.6 and from 3.7 to 73.3, respectively, on a per district basis.

Detection of Theileria orientalis in Iran by semi-nested PCR

Parasitology Research, 2011
In order to identify and differentiate Theileria orientalis in cattle which may be infected with Theileria annulata simultaneously, a semi-nested PCR was performed. Thus, 160 blood samples were collected from apparently healthy native cattle in Golestan province of northern Iran, during 2009 to 2011. The Tbs-S/Tbs-A primer set derived from the 18S rRNA

Clinico-haematological alterations in Theileria orientalis infection in cattle and correlation with level of parasitaemia

Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
Oriental theileriosis caused by protozoan parasite Theileria orientalis, is one of the most economically important diseases of cattle in humid tropics. The pathogenesis of disease is primarily caused by extravascular haemolysis, which leads to anaemia in

Detection and response to Haemaphysalis longicornis and Theileria orientalis Ikeda on a cow-calf farm in Tennessee (USA).

Medical and Veterinary Entomology
Bovine theileriosis is a vector-borne disease poised to become one of the most economically significant diseases of cattle in the United States. The hemoparasite Theileria orientalis Ikeda genotype causes bovine theileriosis (Piroplasmida: Theileriidae),

Cytokine Profiles in Naturally Infected Cattle Reveal Immune Responses to Theileria orientalis Infection

Parasite immunology (Print)
Theileria orientalis, long considered a benign haemoprotozoan, is now recognised as an emerging pathogen causing clinical theileriosis in cattle across the globe.

Identification, genetic variation, and structural analysis of 18S rRNA of Theileria orientalis and Theileria velifera-like isolates from Myanmar

Parasitology International, 2021
Ribosomal RNA genes have been widely used for the identification and phylogenetic analysis of various organisms, including parasitic protozoa. Here, we report nine near full-length Theileria orientalis 18S rRNA gene sequences from cattle from different areas of Myanmar.

Molecular prevalence and genetic diversity of bovine Theileria orientalis in Myanmar

Parasitology International, 2014
Theileria orientalis is a causative agent of benign theileriosis in cattle and distributed in mainly Asian countries. In the present study, we examined the prevalence of T. orientalis infection by PCR based on the major piroplasm surface protein gene (MPSP) sequences in cattle in Myanmar, followed by phylogenetic analysis of the MPSP genes.

Genetic characterization of Theileria orientalis from cattle in the Republic of Korea

Parasitology Research, 2016
Theileria orientalis is the causative agent of benign theileriosis, which is distributed mainly in Asian countries, and causes serious economic losses in the livestock industry. The present study was performed to investigate the epidemiology of T. orientalis infections in cattle in the Republic of Korea (ROK) and to characterize the genetic diversity ...

Interference between Theileria orientalis and hemotropic Mycoplasma spp. (hemoplasmas) in grazing cattle

Veterinary Parasitology, 2013
Theileria orientalis and hemotropic Mycoplasma spp. (hemoplasmas) can cause anemia in cattle. Cattle infected with one of these two pathogens tend to resist infection by the other pathogen. This is called the "interference phenomenon". However, the detailed investigation of this phenomenon using molecular techniques has not been performed until now. We
