Constructing Buildings and Harmonic Maps

open access: yes, 2015
In a continuation of our previous work, we outline a theory which should lead to the construction of a universal pre-building and versal building with a $\phi$-harmonic map from a Riemann surface, in the case of two-dimensional buildings for the group ...

Baryon chiral perturbation theory with virtual photons and leptons

open access: yes, 2010
We construct the general pion-nucleon SU(2) Lagrangian including both virtual photons and leptons for relativistic baryon chiral perturbation theory up to fourth order.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Strengthening of Laminated Veneer Lumber Slabs with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Sheets—Preliminary Study

open access: yesFibers
Analyzing the feasibility of reinforcing new and existing wooden structures is a valid problem, being the subject of numerous scientific papers. The paper presents the preliminary results of a study on reinforcing Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) panels ...

Noncommutative Wilson lines in higher-spin theory and correlation functions of conserved currents for free conformal fields

open access: yes, 2017
We first prove that, in Vasiliev's theory, the zero-form charges studied in 1103.2360 and 1208.3880 are twisted open Wilson lines in the noncommutative $Z$ space. This is shown by mapping Vasiliev's higher-spin model on noncommutative Yang--Mills theory.

Building theory in the sciences of the artificial [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 4th International Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology - DESRIST '09, 2009
This essay extends Simon's arguments in the Sciences of the Artificial to a critical examination of how theorizing in Information Technology disciplines should occur. The essay is framed around a number of fundamental questions that relate theorizing in the artificial sciences to the traditions of the philosophy of science. Theorizing in the artificial

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Toric Construction of Global F-Theory GUTs

open access: yes, 2011
We systematically construct a large number of compact Calabi-Yau fourfolds which are suitable for F-theory model building. These elliptically fibered Calabi-Yaus are complete intersections of two hypersurfaces in a six dimensional ambient space. We first

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

⋆ The broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 2004
Abstract At first blush, it might appear that positive emotions are important to positive psychology simply because positive emotions are markers of optimal well-being. Certainly, moments in people’s lives characterized by experiences of positive emotions—such as joy, interest, contentment, love, and the like—are moments in which they ...
