A Semantic Generalization of Shannon’s Information Theory and Applications

open access: yesEntropy
Does semantic communication require a semantic information theory parallel to Shannon’s information theory, or can Shannon’s work be generalized for semantic communication?

String Theory Explanation of Galactic Rotation Found Using the Geodesic Constraint

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, 2019
The unique spherically symmetric metric which has vanishing Weyl tensor, is asymptotically de-Sitter, and can model constant galactic rotation curves is presented. Two types of field equations are shown to have this metric as an exact solution. The first

Financialization and its discontents

open access: yesFinance and Society, 2017
Finance is not something separate from society. It is neither a Marxian superstructure nor a monetarist veil, but rather the very substance of modern social relations, a web of time-dated promises to pay that stretches from now into the future, and from ...

An assertion language for constraint logic programs

open access: yes, 2000
In an advanced program development environment, such as that discussed in the introduction of this book, several tools may coexist which handle both the program and information on the program in different ways.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Research on type synthesis of a new class of 2T1R uncoupled parallel mechanism with a suitable constraint branch

open access: yesScientific Reports
Type synthesis is an essential building block for addressing the original innovation problems of mechanisms. The current paper presents a new class of 2T1R (two-translational and one-rotational) uncoupled parallel mechanisms (UPMs) with a suitable ...

A Parameterisation of Algorithms for Distributed Constraint Optimisation via Potential Games

open access: yes, 2008
This paper introduces a parameterisation of learning algorithms for distributed constraint optimisation problems (DCOPs). This parameterisation encompasses many algorithms developed in both the computer science and game theory literatures. It is built on

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Hamiltonian analysis of non-relativistic non-BPS Dp-brane

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We perform Hamiltonian analysis of non-relativistic non-BPS Dp-brane. We find the constraint structure of this theory and determine corresponding equations of motion. We further discuss property of this theory at the tachyon vacuum.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐
