Floppy modes and non-affine deformations in random fiber networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study the elasticity of random fiber networks. Starting from a microscopic picture of the non-affine deformation fields we calculate the macroscopic elastic moduli both in a scaling theory and a self-consistent effective medium theory. By relating non-

A Simple Theory of Asymmetric Linear Elasticity

open access: yesWorld Journal of Mechanics, 2020
Rotation is antisymmetric and therefore is not a coherent element of the classical elastic theory, which is characterized by symmetry. A new theory of linear elasticity is developed from the concept of asymmetric strain, which is defined as the transpose

Atomic Size Misfit for Electrocatalytic Small Molecule Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the application and mechanisms of atomic size misfit in catalysis for small molecule activation, focusing on how structural defects and electronic properties can effectively lower the energy barriers of chemical bonds in molecules like H2O, CO2, and N2.

Nonlinear Elasticity, Fluctuations and Heterogeneity of Nematic Elastomers

open access: yes, 2007
Liquid crystal elastomers realize a fascinating new form of soft matter that is a composite of a conventional crosslinked polymer gel (rubber) and a liquid crystal. These {\em solid} liquid crystal amalgams, quite similarly to their (conventional, fluid)

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

STRESSED CONDITION OF THE WRAPPING WITHOUT-DRIVE HYDROTECHNICAL TUNNEL OF THE CIRCULAR FORM, PROPOSED IN ANISOTROPIC ROCK GROUND

open access: yesВестник Дагестанского государственного технического университета: Технические науки, 2019
Objectives. The aim of the study is a parametric analysis of the stress-free lining of a pressureless hydraulic tunnel of circular section, and adjacent anisotropic rock from its own weight of the ground medium at different ratios of the elastic ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

STRESSED STATE OF A SYSTEM OF THREE PARALLEL TUNNELS WITHOUT DRAWING FROM OWN WEIGHT OF AN ANOTROPHONE ROCK MASSIF

open access: yesВестник Дагестанского государственного технического университета: Технические науки, 2019
Objectives. The aim of the study is to carry out a parametric analysis of the stress state of an anisotropic rock massif on the contours of the workings of a system of three parallel circular tunnels without lining due to the mass of the massif, for ...

Electronic Structure of Disclinated Graphene in an Uniform Magnetic Field

open access: yes, 2011
The electronic structure in the vicinity of the 1-heptagonal and 1-pentagonal defects in the carbon graphene plane is investigated. Using a continuum gauge field-theory model the local density of states around the Fermi energy is calculated for both ...

Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations
