Development of meta-representations: Procedural metacognition and the relationship to Theory of Mind [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In several studies it was shown that metacognitive ability is crucial for children and their success in school. Much less is known about the emergence of that ability and its relationship to other meta-representations like Theory of Mind competencies. In

Personalized Network‐Guided Neuromodulation Enhances Human Working Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A personalized neuromodulation framework combining individualized functional brain network targeting with real‐time neural decoding is introduced. Using concurrent TMS–fMRI, participant‐specific stimulation targets and optimal frequencies are identified. Only optimal‐frequency stimulation improves working memory across sessions.

Ethical Precision in Nanoscale Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As brain interfaces approach the nanoscale, precision no longer only measures—it knows, predicts, and potentially reshapes the mind. This work argues that traditional ethics fails under such conditions and proposes a shift toward continuous, operation‐based governance using the recovery–discovery framework to track, constrain, and responsibly steer ...

The epiphenomenal mind [PDF]

open access: yes
The Epiphenomenal Mind is both a deflationary attack on the powers of the human mind and a defence of human subjectivity. It is deflationary because in the thesis I argue that consciousness is an epiphenomenal consequence of events in the brain. It is

Lessons learned using Theory of Mind methods to investigate user social awareness in virtual role-play [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Theory of mind (ToM) methods were used to investigate children’s interpretations of the social and emotional states of synthetic pedagogical characters, focusing on children’s cognitive and affective empathic responses to characters in bullying scenarios

Sustainable Materials Design With Multi‐Modal Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Critical mineral scarcity, high embodied carbon, and persistent pollution from materials processing intensify the need for sustainable materials design. This review frames the problem as multi‐objective optimization under heterogeneous, high‐dimensional evidence and highlights multi‐modal AI as an enabling pathway.

Imitation, play and theory of mind in autism : an observational and experimental study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This observational and experimental study takes the Intersubjectivity Theory of Rogers and Pennington (1991), as the guiding line by which to investigate imitation in autism.

Deciphering the Dynamic Balance Between Solvation Strength and Polysulfides Reaction Heterogeneity in Practical Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A weakly solvating fluorinated cosolvent (1200ET) enables precise solvation‐power regulation in Li–S batteries, decoupling interfacial stabilization from sulfur redox kinetics. This approach suppresses polysulfide dissolution while preserving reaction kinetics, leading to a stable Li metal interface and high‐energy multilayer pouch cells, revealing a ...

Stretchable Microelectrode Arrays with Microneedles for Reliable Electrophysiological Recording of Human Heart and Brain Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A stretchable 3D microelectrode array with microneedles (3D MN‐sMEA) enables stable, minimally destructive electrophysiological monitoring of 3D organoids. The wafer‐level stud‐bump bonding process facilitates high‐fidelity recordings of heart and cerebral organoids.
