Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

The role and value of ethical frameworks in software development

open access: yes, 2003
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Software development is notorious for failure, typically defined as over budget, late delivery and/or poor quality of new information systems (IS) on ...

Social capital theory: a cross-cutting analytic for teacher/therapist work in integrating children's services? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Reviewing relevant policy, this article argues that the current 'integration interlude' is concerned with reformation of work relations to create new forms of 'social capital'. The conceptual framework of social capital has been used by government policy-

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Design of 3D stacked wideband Wilkinson power divider based on rectangular micro‐coaxial process

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation
Based on transmission line theory, a 4‐way wideband coupled‐line Wilkinson power divider is designed by the authors, operating from 6 to 18 GHz. It is established by using a novel manufacturing technology with 3D stacked micro‐coaxial line, realising ...

Classifying Weak, and Strong Components using ROC Analysis with Application to Burn-in [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Any population of components produced might be composed of two sub-populations: weak components are less reliable, and deteriorate faster whereas strong components are more reliable, and deteriorate slower.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Recent Research Progress in Fault Analysis of Complex Electric Power Systems

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2010
In this paper, we adopt a novel approach to the fault analysis of complex electric power systems. Electric power system is one of the most complex artificial systems in the world. Its safe, steady, economical and reliable operating plays a very important

Quantum current in dissipative systems

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
Describing current in open quantum systems can be problematic due to the subtle interplay of quantum coherence and environmental noise. Probing the noise-induced current can be detrimental to the tunneling-induced current and vice versa.
