Cooling an acute muscle injury: can basic scientific theory translate into the clinical setting?

British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2011
Ice is commonly used after acute muscle strains but there are no clinical studies of its effectiveness. By comparison, there are a number of basic scientific studies on animals which show that applying ice after muscle injury has a consistent effect on a number of important cellular and physiological events relating to recovery.

RELEVANCE THEORY IN SCIENTIFIC TRANSLATION: OPTIMIZING SPECIALIZED TERMINOLOGY THROUGH COGNITIVE-PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS

Scientific translation is a complex process requiring accuracy and considering the cognitive-pragmatic aspects of perception. Challenge in special term translation is polysemy of specialized terms with conceptual variety which might be interpreted differently depending on a language of translation. Incorrect term selection can lead to misunderstandings

Regime Science: A Mechanics of Scientific Closure, Translation, and Validity Toward a General Theory of Scientific Regimes

The classical foundations of science formalized internal engines but not their global coordination. Thermodynamics established macroscopic closure through state variables and invariants (energy, entropy) [1–5]. Statistical mechanics provided a probabilistic micro–macro bridge under ensemble assumptions [4–6]. Information theory defined channel capacity
