Therapeutic equivalence of budesonide/formoterol delivered via breath-actuated inhaler vs pMDI.

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine, 2015
RATIONALE To assess equivalence of twice daily (bid) budesonide/formoterol (BUD/FM) 160/4.5 μg via breath-actuated metered-dose inhaler (BAI) versus pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI).

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Original drugs and generics: are there any differences from the clinician’s point of view?

open access: yesРациональная фармакотерапия в кардиологии
The article defines the original drug (OD) and examines the history of the appearance of generic drugs (GD), as well as the evolution of views to prove their bioequivalence to OD.

The problem of choosing between the original and of generic drugs in patients with overweight and obesity

open access: yesОжирение и метаболизм, 2013
This review article discusses the similarities and differences in the research, production and use in clinical practice, original and generic drugs. Reproduced drugs (generics) present on the Russian pharmaceutical market that have the bioequivalence ...

Therapeutic equivalence of inhaled salbutamol [PDF]

open access: yesThorax, 2000
The meta-analysis by Hughes et al was hindered by difficulties in comparing trials that were often flawed and of varied design.1 The authors correctly pointed out that, in most of the studies, the use of equivalence as the null hypothesis was invalid. In addition, all but two of the studies looked at the bronchodilator effects in the presence of basal ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The cultural psychology of obesity: diffusion of pathological norms from Western to East Asian societies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We examine the accelerating worldwide obesity epidemic using a mathematical model relating a cognitive hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis tuned by embedding cultural context to a signal of chronic, structured, psychosocial threat.
