The use of therapeutic hypothermia has been shown to improve survival and neurological outcome following cardiac arrest. Patients with traumatic brain injury or ischemic stroke also responded positively to therapeutic hypothermia, which may be induced by various procedures including surface cooling, endovascular cooling catheter and cold infusion ...

Therapeutic Hypothermia and Temperature Management, 2020
Therapeutic hypothermia has been a treatment option for patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) for many years. There has, however, been uncertainty whether hypothermia in this context also increased clinical bleeding risk, perhaps due to ...

Therapeutic hypothermia protocols
2017The application of targeted temperature management has become common practice in the neurocritical care setting. It is important to recognize the pathophysiologic mechanisms by which temperature control impacts acute neurologic injury, as well as the clinical limitations to its application.

Therapeutic hypothermia: neuroprotective mechanisms
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2007Hypothermia has long been known to be a potent putative neuroprotectant. Experimental evidence and clinical experience show that hypothermia protects the brain from cerebral injury. Recent insights into the mechanisms of cerebral ischemia and reperfusion suggest reasons why hypothermia may be an ideal modality for stroke therapy.
