Transferred plasma catheter for endotherapeutic applications: a parametric study of guided streamers dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Plasma, Vol. 32, Issue 4 (2025)
Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma jets (APPJs) are increasingly used in biomedical applications due to their low temperatures and ability to generate reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS), making them suitable for sensitive environments like medical therapies.

Ion Temperature Evolution in an Ultracold Neutral Plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study the long-time evolution of the ion temperature in an expanding ultracold neutral plasma using spatially resolved, laser-induced-fluorescence spectroscopy. Adiabatic cooling reduces the ion temperature by an order of magnitude during the plasma expansion, to temperatures as low as 0.2 K.

Therapeutic plasma exchange clears circulating soluble PD-L1 and PD-L1-positive extracellular vesicles

open access: yesJournal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, 2020
Background Trans-acting programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) derives from malignant cells in three known forms. High levels of secreted splice variant PD-L1 (sPD-L1), ADAM10/ADAM17-shed sPD-L1, and PD-L1-positive extracellular vesicles (evPD-L1) each ...

Effectiveness of therapeutic plasma exchange in a critically ill child with secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis

open access: yesAsian Journal of Transfusion Science, 2019
Currently, the ASFA has not included TPE in the management of HLH but many cases reports have reported successful role of TPE in HLH. Here we are presenting a case in which HLH was managed successfully with TPE.

Infection frequently triggers thrombotic microangiopathy in patients with preexisting risk factors : a single-institution experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Thrombotic microangiopathies are rare conditions characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, microthrombi, and multiorgan insult. The disorders, which include hemolytic uremic syndrome and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, are often acute and ...

Low‐Activation Compositionally Complex Alloys for Advanced Nuclear Applications—A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐activation compositionally complex alloys (LACCAs) are advanced metallic materials primarily composed of low‐activation elements, offering advantages such as rapid compliance with operational standards and safe recyclability. This review highlights their potential for extreme high‐temperature irradiation environments as structural materials for ...

Menstruation: a possible independent health promoter, aging, and COVID-19

open access: yesCaspian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2022
Women live longer than men. Cardiovascular disorders, cancers, serious infectious conditions are less common among women than men. Recent data also indicate that women, particularly before menopause, are less susceptible to severe COVID-19, a viral ...

Monitoring suPAR levels in post-kidney transplant focal segmental glomerulosclerosis treated with therapeutic plasma exchange and rituximab

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2018
Background Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is an important therapy for recurrent focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (rFSGS) post kidney transplant. suPAR has been causally implicated in rFSGS, and shown to be a unique biomarker for the occurrence and ...
