Therapeutic plasma exchange is a safe and effective bridge therapy in patients with alcohol‐associated ACLF not having immediate prospects for liver transplantation—A case‐control, pilot study

Journal of clinical apheresis, 2022
Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is a well‐established treatment modality in acute liver failure patients, but its efficacy in treating acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) patients is yet to be established.

Comparison of centrifugal and membrane filtration modalities on therapeutic plasma exchange

Journal of clinical apheresis, 2022
Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is a technique in which plasma is separated from the rest of the blood in an extracorporeal system and exchanged with appropriate fluids.

Therapeutic plasma‐exchange improves systemic inflammation and survival in acute‐on‐chronic liver failure: A propensity‐score matched study from AARC

Liver international (Print), 2021
Plasma‐exchange (PE) has improved survival in acute liver failure by ameliorating systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). We evaluated PE and compared it to Fractional Plasma Separation and Adsorption (FPSA) and standard medical treatment (SMT ...

Management of Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura without Therapeutic Plasma Exchange.

Blood
Immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) is a rare, life-threatening autoimmune disorder caused by ADAMTS13 deficiency. Caplacizumab, an anti-VWF nanobody, is approved for iTTP treatment, reducing the need for therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE ...

Therapeutic plasma exchange provides native liver survival benefit in children with acute liver failure: A propensity score‐matched analysis

Journal of clinical apheresis
This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in pediatric acute liver failure (PALF).

Therapeutic plasma exchange and dextran‐sulfate plasma adsorption as extracorporeal treatments of extremely preterm preeclampsia with fetal growth restriction

Journal of clinical apheresis, 2021
To evaluate effectiveness and safety of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and dextran‐sulfate plasma adsorption (DSA) for extracorporeal removal of soluble Fms‐like tyrosine kinase‐1 (sFlt‐1) as part of expectant management of preeclampsia at extremely ...

Refractory vaccine‐induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) managed with delayed therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE)

Journal of clinical apheresis, 2021
Vaccine‐induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a newly described hematologic disorder, which presents as acute thrombocytopenia and thrombosis after administration of the ChAdOx1 nCov‐19 (AstraZeneca) and Ad26.COV2.S (Johnson & Johnson ...

Immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicity: A new indication for therapeutic plasma exchange?

Journal of clinical apheresis, 2021
Novel immune‐modulating anticancer drugs are being used with increasing frequency. With increased use, there are more frequent cases of toxicities caused by these drugs, termed immune‐related adverse events (irAEs).

Therapeutic plasma exchange

1985
The terms ‘plasma exchange’ and ‘plasmapheresis’ have been used interchangeably in the literature. This is regrettable as the two words have different meanings and derivations. The word ‘apheresis’ is derived from the Greek word aphairesis which basically means to remove or withdraw.
