Lithospheric controls on melt production during continental breakup at slow rates of extension: Application to the North Atlantic

open access: yes, 2009
Rifted margins form from extension and breakup of the continentallithosphere. If this extension is coeval with a region of hotter lithosphere, then it is generally assumed that a volcanic margin would follow.

Environmental Drivers of Variation in Bleaching Severity of Acropora Species during an Extreme Thermal Anomaly

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2017
High sea surface temperatures caused global coral bleaching during 2015-2016. During this thermal stress event, we quantified within- and among-species variability in bleaching severity for critical habitat-forming Acropora corals.

The Millepora Zone Is Back: Recent Findings from the Northernmost Region of the Maldives

open access: yesDiversity
Three species of the tropical hydrocoral genus Millepora were common and abundant in the Maldives before 1998, characterizing extensive shallow reef areas known as ‘Millepora zones’.

Anomalous thermal conductivity of NaV2O5 as compared to conventional spin-Peierls system CuGeO3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A huge increase of thermal conductivity k is observed at the phase transition in stoichiometric NaV2O5. This anomaly decreases and gradually disappears with deviation from stoichiometry in Na(1-x}V2O5 (x = 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, and 0.04).

Thermal Transport in Chiral Conformal Theories and Hierarchical Quantum Hall States

open access: yes, 2001
Chiral conformal field theories are characterized by a ground-state current at finite temperature, that could be observed, e.g. in the edge excitations of the quantum Hall effect.

Elinvar Materials: Recent Progress and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Elinvar materials, exhibiting temperature‐invariant elastic modulus, are critical for precision instruments and emerging technologies. This article reviews recent progress in the field, with a focus on the anomalous thermoelastic behavior observed in key material systems.

Internal Structures of Highlands in Western Lunar Farside Revealed by CE-2 CELMS Data

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2020
The internal structures are the key to understand the surface evolution of the Moon. However, the study of such kind is absent. In this study, the Chang'e-2 microwave radiometer data are employed to explore the internal structures in the highlands of the
