Protective Thermal Barrier Coatings
2016The goal of using TBCs is, e.g. to reduce thermal conductivity between exhaust gases and the blade material, anti-corrosion protection and increased wear resistance.

Thermal Barrier Coatings for Superalloys
Superalloys 1980 (Fourth International Symposium), 1980The current status of ceramic thermal barrier coatings for protection of turbine airfoil components is reviewed. Test results for an early duplex coating system ZrO2-12% Y2O3/Ni-16% Cr-6% Al-0.6% Y, improved system ZrO2-8% Y2O3/Ni-17% Cr-5% Al-0.35% Y, and air/fuel impurity tolerant systems based on ZrO2-8% Y2O3, 2CaO-SiO2, and a MgO-NiCrAlY cermet are

Survivability of thermal barrier coatings
Materials Science and Engineering, 1987Abstract Thermal barrier ceramic oxide coatings are gaining wide acceptance for applications in heat engines. Such ceramic thermal shields are used in conjunction with MCrAlY-type intermediate bond coatings, applied over superalloy substrates. The thermal barrier coatings must endure extreme thermal cycling and hostile chemical environments.

Corrosion-Resistant Thermal Barrier Coatings
Advanced Ceramic Materials, 1988The corrosion resistance of the zirconia-based thermal barrier coatings to combustion products, such as vanadate and sulfate salts generated in fuel-fired gas turbines, was examined. Investigations have been conducted on the quaternary oxide system ZrO{sub 2}-Y{sub 2}O{sub 3}-SiO{sub 2}-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}.

Erosion of thermal barrier coatings
Materials at High Temperatures, 2003AbstractThermal barrier coatings have been used within gas turbines for over 30 years to extend the life of hot section components. Thermally sprayed ceramics were the first to be introduced and are widely used to coat combustor cans, ductwork, platforms and more recently turbine aerofoils of large industrial engines.

Advanced Thermal Barrier Coating
2000Abstract : The primary research objective of this work was to develop a novel thermal barrier coating (TEC) system by depositing a high quality alpha alumina sublayer on the metallic bond-coat, prior to the deposition of the yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coating.
