Impact of multidimensional airflow and internal radiation heat exchange in thermally massive wall assemblies utilizing cold-formed steel framing and reflective insulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
Thermal bridging due to high-conductivity metal elements in steel-framed systems can affect building performance. The presence of thermal bridges, radiative heat exchange between air-facing surfaces, and natural convection driven by buoyancy effects ...

Experimental determination of dynamic allowance for traffic loading in bridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Transportation Research Board 89th Annual Meeting, Washington DC, 2010-1-10 to 2010-1-14Bridge codes adopt values for dynamic allowance in traffic load models that are necessarily conservative to cover for an entire range of bridges with different ...

Regulated Ion‐Diffusion Hydrogels for Subtle and Multimodal Temperature‐Strain Sensing in Wound Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, dual‐channel hydrogel patch enables simultaneous detection of wound temperature and strain by integrating ion‐diffusion‐mediated thermoelectric and resistive sensing. The conformal design maintains stable performance during motion, capturing subtle inflammatory and mechanical changes for continuous wound monitoring.

Decarbonizing Residential Stock in Southern Poland: A Technical Roadmap to NZEB Standards Based on a Retrofit Through HVAC Modernisation and Nature-Based Solutions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Decarbonising the existing residential sector is a central priority of European energy policy, yet masonry buildings from the early 2000s remain significantly underrepresented in net-zero energy building (NZEB) research.

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

In Situ Thermal Performance Assessment of a Wood–Aluminum Window: Case Study of Spatial Variability, Dynamic Effects, and U-Value Accuracy

open access: yesBuildings
This paper presents an experimental evaluation of the thermal performance of a wood–aluminum window installed in a timber building exposed to real climatic conditions. The assessment is based on long-term in situ measurements of heat flux and temperature

Thermal quadrupole method with internal heat sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A new method based on the thermal quadrupoles technique for heat transfer modelling in multilayered slabs with heat sources is proposed. Classical thermal quadrupoles use hyperbolic functions and numerical problems occur according to the argument value ...

Ionic Precursors Transformed Into Vinyl Acetate Synthesis Catalyst via Reaction‐Driven Restructuring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that a simple physical mixture of Pd and Au ionic precursors, KOAc promoter, and SiO2 support can transform into a highly active vinyl acetate synthesis catalyst through reaction‐driven restructuring. The results highlight reaction‐induced restructuring as an innovative and sustainable catalyst design strategy.

Non-steady Phenomena in the Vibration of Viscous Cylindrical Long Liquid Bridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
This paper deals with the dynamic response of long cylindrical viscous liquid bridges subjected to an oscillatory microgravity field whose frequency varies linearly with time. The problem has been solved by using a one-dimensional model for the dynamics,
