SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Heat Transfer Intensification Using Nanofluids

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
This paper summarises some of our recent work on the heat transfer of nanofluids (dilute liquid suspensions of nanoparticles). It covers heat conduction, convective heat transfer under both natural and forced flow ...

Multiscale modeling of heat conduction in graphene laminates

open access: yes, 2017
We developed a combined atomistic-continuum hierarchical multiscale approach to explore the effective thermal conductivity of graphene laminates. To this aim, we first performed molecular dynamics simulations in order to study the heat conduction at ...

Analysis of Treacher Collins syndrome 4‐associated mutations in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Fission yeast models carrying Treacher Collins syndrome type 4‐associated mutations reveal that impaired processivity of RNA polymerase I leads to defective rRNA transcription. This study highlights the essential role of a conserved arginine residue in Pol I elongation and provides mechanistic insight into the pathogenesis of ribosomopathies.

Analytical design of effective thermal conductivity for fluid-saturated prismatic cellular metal honeycombs

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2016
A comparative optimal design of fluid-saturated prismatic cellular metal honeycombs (PCMHs) having different cell shapes is presented for thermal management applications. Based on the periodic topology of each PCMH, a unit cell (UC) for thermal transport

Establishment of a coculture system for Porphyromonas gingivalis and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using spheroid culture and LATS inhibition

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a spheroid coculture system enabling viable Porphyromonas gingivalis–HNSCC interactions under normoxic conditions. Inhibition of LATS1/2 maintains tumor cells in an undifferentiated state, which may promote spheroid growth and create a more permissive environment for bacterial persistence.

Abnormal thermal conduction and stochastic resonance phenomenon in a finite lattice system

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
This paper studies the thermal conduction of Frenkel–Kontorva (FK)-ϕ4 lattices with the finite number of atoms under a periodic force. Through numerical simulations, we find that in the thermal conduction of non-linear lattices, external periodic signals

2-D Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations of Induced Plasma Dynamics in the Near-Core Region of a Galaxy Cluster

open access: yes, 2010
We present results from numerical simulations of the cooling-core cluster A2199 produced by the two-dimensional (2-D) resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) code MACH2.

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

The Launching of Cold Clouds by Galaxy Outflows II: The Role of Thermal Conduction

open access: yes, 2016
We explore the impact of electron thermal conduction on the evolution of radiatively-cooled cold clouds embedded in flows of hot and fast material, as occur in outflowing galaxies.
