Modeling and control of distributed thermal systems

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2003
This paper investigates the application of model-based control design techniques to distributed temperature control systems. Multivariable controllers are an essential part of modern-day rapid thermal processing (RTP) systems. We consider all aspects of the control problem beginning with a physics-based model and concluding with implementation of a ...

Hierarchical Control of Aircraft Electro-Thermal Systems

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2020
A hierarchical model predictive control (MPC) approach is developed for energy management of aircraft electro-thermal systems. High-power electrical systems on board modern and future aircraft perform a variety of mission- and flight-critical tasks, while thermal management systems actively cool these electronics to satisfy component-specific ...

Modeling and control of a thermal system

Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Control and Applications CCA-94, 1994
The application of cascaded state-space control for thermal systems is presented. The use of an observer for the immeasurable states also enables the control of the difference between the two temperatures. For a large class of systems, a simple model is obtained. This model is parametrized by the accessible parameters like the caloric mass and the heat

A Thermal Control System for Thermal Cycling

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1985
Abstract A microprocessor-based system has been developed to control varying temperature during material characterization tests. The system controls temperature independently over four zones. Four control zones are used in order to provide two-dimensional temperature control on a flat plate specimen.

Power and Thermal Control System

1999
Space stations represent the largest kind of infrastructures in space. As they are used intensively over long periods of time, it is not surprising that they are also the largest power consumers in space. Due to the current mode of power generation by means of solar generators, the large collector surfaces are the dominant components of a station ...

Optimal Control of a Nonlinear Thermal System

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1989
Abstract An optimal control problem of a nonlinear theraal system is studied. The existence of an optimal solution is given. The problem is discretized by an implicit scheme in time and a finite elements method of first order in space. A convergence result of the discrete optimal solution towards the continuous optimal solution is worked out.

Control system design for a rapid thermal processing system

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2001
Proposes a control system design for a rapid thermal processing (RTP) system, which has four circular concentric lamp zones and four temperature sensors. The control system consists of a least square feedforward controller and an output feedback proportional plus integral (PI) controller. The goal is to maintain uniform temperature tracking for typical

ATV Thermal Control System

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2004
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) Thermal Control System (TCS) has the task to ensure the required internal environment at level of pressurized module and to thermally control the not pressurised modules and installed equipment, using passive and active control means, in response to the relevant applicable ...

Modeling and control for an integrated thermal hydronic system

2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE), 2015
This paper presents modeling and control methods for an integrated thermal hydronic system (ITHS) consisting of a solar thermal collector, a thermal storage unit and a thermal booster. Control inputs are: valves activation time, pitch angle, solar pump rate and compressor rate, measurements are: temperatures at critical points, and disturbances are ...

An Intelligent Control System for Thermal Processing of Biomaterials

2007 IEEE International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control, 2007
An intelligent control system for thermal processing of natural biomaterials, based on machine vision, sensor fusion and neural network was developed. Experiments with ginseng drying showed advantages of machine vision for real-time imaging of morphological, colour and texture attributes, providing sufficient discriminatory information about ...
