The Thermal Canister: An Instrument Thermal Control System
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1983<div class="htmlview paragraph">The Thermal Canister is a proof of concept experiment flown on the third flight of the Space Shuttle (March 1982). The canister utilizes heat pipe technology to provide a closely controlled, stable temperature environment for scientific instruments negating the effects of the harsh, variable shuttle environment ...

Nonlinear controller for automotive thermal management systems
Proceedings of the 2003 American Control Conference, 2003., 2004The functionality of gasoline and diesel engine thermal management systems can be enhanced through the introduction of a smart thermostat valve and variable speed water pump. A nonlinear tracking controller is presented in this paper for advanced thermal management systems applicable to ground vehicles.

Robust Control of a Thermal Unstable PDE System
2018 13th APCA International Conference on Control and Soft Computing (CONTROLO), 2018Some distributed parameter systems with irrational transfer function can be written into an infinite factorized quotient for dynamic analysis and control design purposes. Hence, high accuracy approximate time solutions and frequency uncertainty bounds can be computed exactly, enabling early lumping in robust controller design.

Space Thermal Systems - The Challenge of Adaptive Controls
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1984<div class="htmlview paragraph">The rapid and ever increasing development of microprocessor based controllers in a wide and diversified range of applications leads to consider their candidacy on spacecraft systems. Easy programmability, potentials for implementing the most complex logical control laws, and their “adaptivity” form the backbone of ...

Effects of the thermal environment on the thermal control system of AMS
Science China Technological Sciences, 2014This paper presents an overview of the AMS thermal control system and its thermal environment on the ISS. We give examples of analysis and correlation of space environmental impacting on the thermal control system of AMS. The most critical factors that affect the thermal environment to AMS are beta angle, attitude of ISS, ISS solar array and ISS ...

Thermal modeling and control of rapid thermal processing systems
Proceedings of 1995 34th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002Rapid thermal processing (RTP) is becoming increasingly more important in semiconductor wafer fabrication. A nonlinear physical model for a generic RTP system is described. This generic RTP system is representative of the state-of-the-art RTP systems. A low-order nonlinear model is developed.

Learning Control of Thermal Systems
2001Thermal processes are common in industry. The systems are often quite complex because of the phenomena involved and the sizes of the plants. This Chapter shows how learning techniques can be used for such complex systems.

Learning Control Approach for Thermal Regulation of Rapid Thermal Processing System
2015 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2015In order to control the temperature distribution on the wafer in a rapid thermal processing system, we develop a learning control approach based on the dominant modes of the system state. Firstly, the dominant modes of the system state are extracted through the K-L method.
