Shape control in composite laminates using piezoelectric actuators considering thermal deformation

open access: yes, 2008
Based on the first order shear deformation plate theory, a numerical analysis model of composite laminated plates with distributed PZT actuators under thermal load was established, and the corresponding formulae of finite element method were present ...

Burn threshold prediction for high efficiency deep grinding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Burn threshold diagrams are useful for the prediction of thermally induced grinding damage and were originally developed to describe the conventional shallow cut grinding regime.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

A new inverse trigonometric shear deformation theory for isotropic and functionally graded sandwich plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A new inverse trigonometric shear deformation theory is proposed for the static, buckling and free vibration analyses of isotropic and functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Periodic Thermal Deformation of Large Seal Ring

open access: yesJSME international journal. Ser. C, Dynamics, control, robotics, design and manufacturing, 1994
Oil film seals of large diameter sometimes show long-period cyclic deformation of the floating seal ring whose rotation is constrained by a stopper pin. Cyclic change of deformation and oil film temperature may cause fatigue damage of the seal ring after long-term operation. We present a theory for the mechanisms of thermal deformation and its periodic

Loading Surface in the Course of Mechanical- Thermal Treatment and Steady-State Creep of Metals

open access: yes, 2013
: Kinetics of the loading surface of a material gives precious information on the level of the hardening of the material. This paper is concerned with the evolution of the loading surface during successive actions, such as: (i) plastic deformation, (ii)

Predicting thermal shape recovery of crosslinked polymer networks from linear viscoelasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The viscoelastic behavior of an amorphous shape-memory polymer network and its dependence on time and temperature were measured by dynamic mechanical analysis.
