The emplacement and deformation of granitic rocks in a transpressional shear zone: the ox mountains igneous complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The structural evolution of the Ox Mountains Granodiorite {478±12Ma) during and after its emplacement is described. This pluton has been emplaced within and synchronously with, a major transpressional shear zone which is expressed as a 11km wide belt of ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Calorimetric consequences of thermal softening in Johnson–Cook’s model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
At high loading rates, the development of adiabatic shear bands in metals is conventionally attributed to the strong interactions induced by viscoplastic dissipation within the bands and thermal softening effects.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Application of multi sensor data fusion based on Principal Component Analysis and Artificial Neural Network for machine tool thermal monitoring

open access: yes, 2015
Due to the various heat sources on a machine tool, there exists a complex temperature distribution across its structure. This causes an inherent thermal hysteresis which is undesirable as it affects the systematic tool –to-workpiece positioning ...

Bending and free vibration of functionally graded beams using various higher-order shear deformation beam theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, various higher-order shear deformation beam theories for bending and free vibration of functionally graded beams are developed. The developed theories account for higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Modelling and evaluation of time-varying thermal errors in machine tool elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
This thesis addresses a comprehensive approach to understanding the time-varying thermal errors in machine tools. Errors in machine tools are generally classified as being time or spatial dependent.

Characters of Surface Deformation and Surface Wave in Thermal Capillary Convection

open access: yes, 2006
In the field of fluid mechanics, free surface phenomena is one of the most important physical processes. In the present research work, the surface deformation and surface wave caused by temperature difference of sidewalls in a rectangular cavity have ...

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging
