Continuous monitoring of cerebral blood flow (CBF) has been an area under research to observe immediate changes in blood flow under a wide variety of circumstances. Recently, however, continuous monitoring of blood flow in the trauma cases has provided prognostic and therapeutic help in the management of these patients.

The Ludwig-Soret effect or thermal diffusion, which refers to the separation of liquid mixtures in a temperature gradient, is governed by a nonlinear, partial differential equation in space and time. It is shown here that the solution to the nonlinear differential equation for a binary mixture predicts the existence of shock waves completely analogous ...

Thermal Diffusion of Nucleotides
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2012We investigate the thermal diffusion behavior of aqueous solutions of nucleotides using an infrared thermal diffusion forced Rayleigh scattering (IR-TDFRS) setup. In this work we study 5 nucleotides: cyclic nucleotides adenosine and guanosine monophosphate, 5'-adenosine and 5'-cytidine monophosphate, and also adenosine diphosphate in water.

The tip of a rod is heated with a torch and brought into contact with the center of a metal sheet. A thermal camera is then used to image the temperature profile of the surface as a function of time. The infrared camera is capable of recording radiometric data with 1 mK resolution in nearly 105 pixels, so thermal diffusion can be monitored with ...

Thermal Diffusion and Convective Stability
The Physics of Fluids, 1972The stability of a two-component fluid layer subjected to a temperature gradient has been studied, and the associated thermal diffusion separation has been found to exert a large influence even when the separations are small. The most unexpected and perhaps important result is that an instability has been found which can give rise to convection ...

Thermal Diffusivity Measurements of Thermographite
International Journal of Thermophysics, 2004This paper presents results of measurements of a graphite proposed to serve as a thermophysical property reference or standard reference material. The reported measurements contribute to a program launched in 1999 by Anter Corp. with the objective to provide a replacement for the NIST thermal property reference material RM AXM-5Q graphite whose ...

We describe applications of fast IR cameras to map the thermal diffusivity of a slab of material. The methodology is based on curve-fitting techniques like those described at the 1998 Review of Progress in QNDE. We will present a comparison between results obtained using a laboratory camera with those obtained using a portable camera suitable for field

Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Diffusivity
1983Abstract This chapter presents basic principles and the theoretical results of heat transport in solids. Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity are the principal properties discussed. Discussions are also included on the effects of temperature, magnetic field, and metallurgical variations caused by composition, processing, and heat-
