Physics-Based Modelling for On-Line Condition Monitoring of a Marine Engine System

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
The engine system is critical for a marine vehicle, and its performance significantly affects the efficiency and safety of the whole ship. Due to the harsh working environment and the complex system structure, a marine system is prone to have many kinds ...

Influence of usage and model inaccuracies on the performance of smart hot water heaters: lessons learned from a demand response field test

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research
Domestic hot water heaters are considered to be easily integrated as flexible loads for demand response. While literature grows on reproducible simulation and lab tests, real-world implementation in field tests considering state estimation and demand ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

A data-driven regression model for predicting thermal plant performance under load fluctuations

open access: yesCarbon Neutrality
The global energy demand is still primarily reliant on fossil-fueled thermal power plants. With the growing share of renewables, these plants must frequently adjust their loads.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Energy efficient thermal systems and processes

open access: yesThermal Science and Engineering Progress, 2018
Abstract Achieving thermal systems and processes which are energy efficient and of optimised design is a goal for researchers and engineers in view of rising energy costs and decreasing targets for greenhouse gas emissions. Energy efficiency is also vital if organisations are to remain competitive.
