A Thermal Model for Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rough Surfaces
Tribology Transactions, 1992This paper reports on the development of a thermal model that can be 4us1ed to analyze transient elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of rough surfaces. The thermal domain is composed of three sub-domains, including the film region and the two bounding solids with the thermal boundaries placed inside the solids at which the temperature variation is ...

A fast, robust, straightforward algorithm for thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication
Tribology International, 1993Abstract A straightforward computational algorithm is developed for solving thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication problems in concentrated rolling/sliding line contacts. The algorithm is more efficient for pressure calculation than the conventional Newton-Raphson algorithm, can be used in both micro thermal and non-Newtonian thermal ...

The classical ElastoHydroDynamic (EHD) theory assumes a Newtonian lubricant and an isothermal operating regime. In reality, lubricating oils do not behave as perfect Newtonian fluids. Moreover, in most operating conditions of an engineering system, especially at high speeds, thermal effects are important and temperature can no longer be considered as ...

Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Analysis of Tilting Pad Thrust Bearings
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2011The effects of elastic deformation of pad surface, rotational speed, axial load, and oil viscosity grade on tilting pad thrust bearing performance were analysed using the model of thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The Reynolds equation, the viscosity—temperature and density—temperature characteristics of the lubricants, film thickness equation ...

Traction in Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rough Surfaces
Journal of Tribology, 1992This paper studies the traction behavior of elastohydrodynamically lubricated line contacts between two rough surfaces. The study uses a thermal micro-elastohydrodynamic-lubrication (micro-EHL) model and obtains traction coefficients for a wide range of operating conditions and for film parameters as small as 1.50.

On the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication of tilting roller pairs
Tribology International, 2013Abstract In order to investigate thermal effect of tilting roller pairs, a numerical solution for TEHL of tilting roller pairs has been presented. Variations in the lubricating performance with tilting angle have been investigated. Comparison between thermal and isothermal solutions has been made.

Thermal Non-Newtonian Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Rolling Line Contacts
Journal of Tribology, 1991The two-dimensional thermal elastohydrodynamic equations were numerically solved for a Ree-Eyring type lubricant under pure rolling conditions. Profiles of lubricant pressure, film thickness, and temperature were obtained for medium to heavy loads and moderate to high rolling speeds.

Thermal effects in elastohydrodynamic lubrication of line contacts using a non-Newtonian lubricant
Tribology International, 1991Abstract A Reynolds' equation, using Winer's viscoplastic model to express the non-Newtonian fluid property, is derived for line-contact EHL problems. The numerical solutions are obtained to the incorporated Reynolds', elasticity, and energy equations for pressure, film thickness, and temperature distribution between two surfaces simultaneously ...

A Generalized Reynolds Equation for Non-Newtonian Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication
Journal of Tribology, 1990A new generalized Reynolds equation, which can incorporate most of the rheological laws found in the literature, is derived in this paper. A number of numerical solutions of the line contact thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication problem has been obtained by using five rheological laws. The results show that, the influence of the non-Newtonian behavior
