Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Non-Newtonian Fluids With Rough Surfaces

Journal of Tribology, 1997
The characteristics of thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication by non-Newtonian fluids for rough surfaces is investigated theoretically. The general Reynolds equation for two-sided striated roughness lubricated by power law fluids is established using a perturbation approach.

Non-Newtonian Starved Thermal-Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Finite Line Contacts

Tribology Transactions, 2013
Heavily loaded finite line contacts working under elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) conditions are quite often found in machine elements. However, a perfect line contact requires absolute alignment of the axes of the contacting bodies, which is difficult to achieve.

Grease thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication properties of tripod sliding universal couplings

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2018
Purpose This paper aims to improve the grease thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) properties of the tripod sliding universal coupling (TSUC) under automotive practical conditions. For this purpose, the effect of effective radius was theoretically investigated.

On the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication in opposite sliding circular contacts

Tribology International, 2001
Abstract Cases of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) point contacts running under opposite sliding conditions have been studied with consideration of the thermal effect for various loads and entrainment velocities. A thermal EHL solver has been developed and proven to be able to deal even with extreme cases under an infinite slide–roll ratio ...

Thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis of nutation face gear transmission

Engineering Computations
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of basic design parameters of nutation face gear transmission on the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication characteristics of grease lubrication, considering the influence of heat generated by frictional power loss between meshing tooth surfaces on the ...

Numerical modelling of thermal effects in elastohydrodynamic lubrication solvers

2003
The numerical modelling of thermal effects in elastohydrodynamic lubrication solvers is addressed by extending the code of the authors. This code is used to investigate the important effect of shear upon the temperature profiles for both a steady state and a transient line reversal example and also for a steady state point contact problem.

Line contact thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication subjected to longitudinal vibration

2003
Complete numerical analysis was carried out for the time-dependent, thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of line contacts. It was assumed that the contact was composed of an infinite plane and an infinitely long roller. The surfaces were running in opposite directions so that a deep dimple was produced by the action of the thermal viscosity ...
