MODIS thermal emissive band detector bias

Two nearly identical MODIS instruments are currently operating in space: one on the Terra spacecraft launched in December 1999 and another on the Aqua spacecraft launched in May 2002. MODIS has a total of 36 spectral bands, 16 of which are the Thermal Emissive Bands (TEB) with wavelengths covering from 3.7μm to 14.4μm.

Thermal emission of InAs induced by band tails

The band tail effect on the thermal emission (TE) integrated power and the spectral distribution ( lambda =3-5 mu m) in n-InAs (Nd-Na=1.6*1016 cm-3) has been investigated for the first time. The Urbach parameter Teff has been determined in the temperature range 310-400 K. Some practical uses for the results obtained are also discussed.

Performance of MODIS thermal emissive bands on-orbit calibration algorithm

MODIS has 16 thermal emissive bands (TEB) covering wavelengths from 3.75 to 14.24μm. They are calibrated on a scan-by-scan basis using a quadratic calibration algorithm and data collected from detector responses to the instrument on-board blackbody (BB) and space view (SV).
