Summary of Terra MODIS Thermal Emissive Bands On-orbit Calibration

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2006
Terra MODIS has been in operation for more than 6 years since its launch in December 1999. It has been continuously making global observations for scientific studies of the Earth system and its environment and climate changes. MODIS has 20 reflective solar bands (RSB) and 16 thermal emissive bands (TEB).

THz Thermal Emission Control Via Electromagnetic Band Engineering

IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology, 2014
In the following, we report on the design and implementation of an inexpensive thermal source for THz radiation with a highly tunable radiation signature. It consists of five 350- μm-thick Si wafers, each spaced 1 mm apart. The thermal emission of this structure was calculated analytically and numerically.

Directional control of narrow-band thermal emission from nanoantennas

Journal of Photonics for Energy, 2019
We investigate the directional control of narrow-band perfect thermal emission using a nanoscale Yagi–Uda antenna. Although Yagi–Uda antennas were demonstrated to achieve directional control in the optical and radio frequency regimes, they have not been applied for thermal infrared emission. Here, by coupling a nanoscale thermal emitter into a Yagi–Uda

SNPP VIIRS thermal emissive band performance after three years on-orbit

2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015
The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) spacecraft's primary sensor is the Visible-Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) which launched on October 28, 2011. It has 22 total bands with 7 thermal emissive bands (TEBs), a high dynamic range monochromatic Day Night Band (DNB) and 14 reflective solar bands (RSBs).

Electronic crosstalk effect in SNPP VIIRS thermal emissive bands (Conference Presentation)

Earth Observing Systems XXII, 2017
The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) onboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) spacecraft has been on orbit for more than five years. Pronounced striping in Earth view (EV) images and obvious discontinuity in the EV brightness temperature (BT) of the thermal emissive bands (TEB) during the blackbody (BB) warm-up ...

Early Calibration and Performance Assessments of NOAA-20 VIIRS Thermal Emissive Bands

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2019
The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) sensor aboard the NOAA-20 (previously JPSS-1) spacecraft has successfully operated since its launch in November, 2017. Similar to the first VIIRS instrument on the Suomi-National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) spacecraft, the data are collected in 22 spectral bands that are calibrated by a set of

Emissivity signatures in the thermal IR band for remote sensing: calibration procedure and method of measurement

Applied Optics, 1988
Problems encountered in thermal infrared spectral emissivity signatures for remote sensing are addressed. Instrument calibration procedure is described, with particular attention to stray light effects. A method, which derives from the box method, for the absolute determination of spectral signatures of bare soils and mineral samples is proposed and ...
