Enhancing aromatic yield from catalytic pyrolysis of Ca2+-loaded lignin coupled with metal-modified HZSM-5

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science, 2022
Catalytic fast pyrolysis of lignin is easy to cause agglomeration and coking, resulting in low-yield aromatic hydrocarbons. Catalytic pyrolysis of modified lignin combined with metal-modified HZSM-5 was proposed to enhance the aromatic yield.

Research progress on the production of multi-carbon products from CO_2 by integrating electrochemical and microbial conversion

open access: yes能源环境保护, 2023
Production of high value-added chemicals and fuels from carbon dioxide (CO_2) is an important technology to achieve zero carbon emissions. However, how to efficiently and sustainably convert carbon dioxide into higher value long-chain molecules is still ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The Influence of Insulating Layers on the Acoustic Performance of Lightweight Frame Floors Intended for Use in Residential Buildings

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The acoustic performance of floors plays a primary role in the total quality rating of a residential building. The sound insulation of lightweight frame floors, which are increasingly being used in housing, depends on a number of factors and technical ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
