Thermal Exergy and its Storage
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the thermal energy storage (TES) and highlights the strategy in a war against waste of natural resources. It also discusses the concepts of temperature and entropy. In reversible processes, entropy production is zero and entropy enters just as the energetic quantity of thermal processes.

Exergy analysis of solar thermal collectors and processes
Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, 2016Abstract This paper presents a review of exergy analysis of solar thermal collectors and processes. It includes not only various types of solar collectors, but also various applications of solar thermal systems. Initially the fundamentals of second law analysis are briefly presented as well as the exergy of solar radiation, which is the input to any ...

Abstract The exergy of a substance is the theoretical amount of mechanical work which can be derived from its heat content at given initial and end conditions. At given end conditions, the exergy is a state variable. The exergy per unit mass of pure water has been tabulated for the most important initial and end temperatures.

Exergy analyses of thermal energy storage systems
2007Publisher Summary Exergy analysis provides an illuminating, rational, and meaningful alternative for assessing and comparing thermal energy storage (TES) systems. It yields efficiencies which provide a true measure of how nearly actual performance approaches the ideal, and identifies more clearly than energy analysis the magnitudes, causes, and ...

Exergy of undiluted thermal radiation
Solar Energy, 2003Abstract The present work discusses the existing formulae for calculation of the thermal radiation exergy. Some clarifications of terms used are given with interpretative comments. Discussed are the author’s derivation procedures for three categories of radiation; enclosed system, black flux, and any arbitrary radiation flux.

Exergy analysis of thermal comfort
International Journal of Exergy, 2004Traditional methods of human thermal comfort are based on the first law of thermodynamics. These methods use an energy balance of the human body to determine heat transfer between the body and its environment. By contrast, the second law of thermodynamics introduces the concept of exergy.
