Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Influence of Extension Length of Rotor End Windings on the Three-Dimensional Electromagnetic Field and Temperature Rise in the Large Turbine Generator End Zone With Magnetic Screen

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Leakage magnetic field from the rotor end windings affects obviously the electromagnetic losses and temperature of end components in the turbine generator end zone with magnetic screen. As the capacity of turbine generator increases, this effect of rotor

Thermal conductivity and stability of commercial MgB$_2$ conductors

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents a study of the thermal transport properties of MgB$_2$ tapes differing in architecture, stabilization and constituent materials. The temperature and field dependence of thermal conductivity, $\kappa(T,B)$, was investigated both along ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Near-field thermal imaging of nanostructured surfaces

open access: yes, 2011
We show that a near-field scanning thermal microscope, which essentially detects the local density of states of the thermally excited electromagnetic modes at nanometer distances from some material, can be employed for nanoscale imaging of structures on ...

Two band gap field-dependent thermal conductivity of $MgB_2$

open access: yes, 2003
The thermal conductivity $\kappa (H,T)$ of the new superconductor $MgB_2$ was studied as a function of the temperature and a magnetic field. No anomaly in the thermal conductivity $\kappa (H,T)$ is observed around the superconducting transition in ...

An Inkjet‐Printed Platinum‐Based Temperature Sensing Element on Polyimide Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An inkjet‐printed, meander‐structured, nanoparticle platinum‐based resistive temperature sensors on polyimide substrates are demonstrated as proof‐of‐concept. Optimized sintering at 250°C enables stable conductive structures. The Pt100‐ and Pt1000‐type sensors exhibit linear resistance–temperature characteristics with stable TCR in the 20°C–80°C range,
