Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Flat-band quantum materials empowering self-adapted ultrabroadband detectors

open access: yesNature Communications
Blackbody-sensitive room-temperature photodetectors with ultrabroadband response from the short to very long-wave infrared (VLWIR) range are highly desirable for optical communication, industrial gas leakage detection, night vision, and atmosphere ...

Noise suppression of infrared thermal imaging of rocket exhaust plume using SPOD

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
The environmental noise have a negative influence on the quality of infrared thermal imaging of the rocket exhaust plume. In this study, the noise data of the unsteady rocket exhaust plume flow field was simulated using Gaussian white noise, and the ...

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Coal gangue recognition method based on water heat transfer and infrared thermal imaging

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua
The coal gangue recognition method based on visible light images has low accuracy and slow recognition speed. The coal gangue recognition method based on high-energy ray transmission has significant radiation, resulting in limited application.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Applications of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs) in Hydrology: A Review

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
In less than two decades, UASs (unmanned aerial systems) have revolutionized the field of hydrology, bridging the gap between traditional satellite observations and ground-based measurements and allowing the limitations of manned aircraft to be overcome.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Spacecraft and Asteroid Thermal Image Generation for Proximity Navigation and Detection Scenarios

open access: yesApplied Sciences
On-orbit autonomous relative navigation performance strongly depends on both sensor suite and state reconstruction selection. Whenever that suite relies on image-based sensors working in the visible spectral band, the illumination conditions strongly ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.
