Thermal desorption mass spectrometer for mass metrology
Review of Scientific Instruments, 2014This article presents a device for the study of physisorbed elements on polished surfaces (diameter ⩽56 mm) of the kind used in mass metrology. The technique is based on mass spectrometry of molecules desorbed after heating under vacuum of the analyzed surface.

Low Thermal Mass Liquid Chromatography
Analytical Chemistry, 2009A novel technique, low thermal mass liquid chromatography (LTMLC), is introduced in this study. The use of an LTM assembly that utilizes the principle of resistive wire heating and a temperature sensor to accurately deliver unprecedented heating (up to 1800 degrees C/min) or cooling (100 to approximately 200 degrees C/min) rates is reported.

Mass and Thermal Diffusivity Algorithms
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2002Abstract: Mass and thermal diffusivity measurements conducted on Earth are prone to contamination by uncontrollable convective contributions to the overall transport. Previous studies of mass and thermal diffusivities conducted on spacecraft have demonstration the gain in precision, and lower absolute values, resulting from the reduced convective ...

Thermal Ionisation Mass Spectrometry
2014Thermal ionisation, also known as surface ionisation, was one of the first ionisation techniques developed for mass spectrometry, having been invented as early as 1918. The ionization process, described by the empirically derived “fractionation laws”, is widely understood. Isotope ratio measurements can be achieved with high precision and accuracy. Due

Quantifying useful thermal mass: how much thermal mass do you need?
Architectural Science Review, 2014This study examines the development of rules of thumb based on relationship between thermal mass (thermal capacity) and spatial volume; it explores the following research questions: (1) Can you have too much mass in a building?(2) Is there a point at which adding additional mass to a space will not reduce the internal diurnal temperature range during ...

Thermal Mass and Night Ventilation - Utilising “Hidden” Thermal Mass
International Journal of Ventilation, 2002AbstractThis paper presents an overview of systems that utilise thermal mass in conjunction with night ventilation. It discusses the concepts behind and development of a system (“CoolDeck”) to improve the performance of systems where air is ventilated through false ceiling and floor voids to access “hidden mass”. The system improves thermal interaction
