Dimensional Stability and Equilibrium Moisture Content of Thermally Modified Hardwoods

open access: yesBioResources
The dimensional stability and equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of thermally modified hardwoods were studied. Lumber of yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera); red oak (Quercus borealis); white ash (Fraxinus americana), red maple (Acer rubrum); hickory

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Thermal treatment, heat treatment or thermal modification?

open access: yes, 2019
Brazilian studies of a process that has been variously called in Portuguese retificação térmica, termorretificação (both with no English correspondent), tratamento térmico (thermal treatment), tratamento com calor (heat treatment) or modificação térmica (thermal modification) have been increasing since 2000.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Thermal modification of concrete fine powder and the adsorption performance of modified products on arsenic in wastewater

open access: yesGongye shui chuli
Mining and metal smelting have produced a large amount of arsenic-containing wastewater, causing serious environmental pollution. Thermally modified concrete fine powder(TWCP) adsorbent was prepared by calcination modification using concrete fine powder ...

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

Investigation of the Nanoporous Structure of Thermally Modified Carbon Materials by Small-Angle X-ray Scattering

open access: yesФізика і хімія твердого тіла
The nanoporous structure of thermally modified carbon materials was studied using the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) method. An analysis of scattering curves in Guinier and Porod coordinates was carried out for the initial and thermally activated ...

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...
