Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

The influence of dipole-dipole interaction on dynamics of entangled superconducting flux qubits interacting with thermal noise

open access: yesФизика волновых процессов и радиотехнические системы, 2013
The dynamics of two initially entangled artificial atoms with degenerate two-photon transitions interacting with superconducting LC -circuit in the thermal state has been investigated.

Characterization of the mechanical properties of qPlus sensors

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2013
In this paper we present a comparison of three different methods that can be used for estimating the stiffness of qPlus sensors. The first method is based on continuum theory of elasticity.

Microwave cryogenic thermal-noise standards [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Field operational waveguide noise standard with nominal noise temperature of 78.09 plus/minus 0.12 deg K is calibrated more precisely than before. Calibration technique applies to various disciplines such as microwave radiometry, antenna temperature and ...

Numerical integration of thermal noise in relativistic hydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2013
Thermal fluctuations affect the dynamics of systems near critical points, the evolution of the early universe, and two-particle correlations in heavy-ion collisions. For the latter, numerical simulations of nearly-ideal, relativistic fluids are necessary.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Determining cantilever stiffness from thermal noise [PDF]

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2013
We critically discuss the extraction of intrinsic cantilever properties, namely eigenfrequency fn, quality factor Qn and specifically the stiffness kn of the nth cantilever oscillation mode from thermal noise by an analysis of the power spectral density of displacement fluctuations of the cantilever in contact with a thermal bath.

Routing thermal noise through quantum networks

open access: yes, 2018
There is currently significant interest in operating devices in the quantum regime, where their behaviour cannot be explained through classical mechanics.

Quantum limits of cold damping with optomechanical coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Thermal noise of a mirror can be reduced by cold damping. The displacement is measured with a high-finesse cavity and controlled with the radiation pressure of a modulated light beam.
