On-chip Bus Thermal Analysis and Optimization

Proceedings of the Design Automation & Test in Europe Conference, 2006
As technology scales, increasing clock rates, decreasing interconnect pitch, and the introduction of low-k dielectrics have made self-heating of the global interconnects an important issue in VLSI design. In this paper, we study the self-heating of on-chip buses and show that the thermal impact due to self-heating of on-chip buses increases as ...

Thermal drift optimization for silicon microgyroscope

2016 IEEE SENSORS, 2016
This paper describes a low temperature drift Z-axis silicon gyroscope with a low temperature sensitivity interface circuit. The gyroscope's temperature drift is optimized from two aspects: MEMS structure and its interface circuit design. Firstly, the sources of zero rate output(ZRO) are analyzed, and then we point out that improving the stability of ...

Optimized couplers for interfacial thermal transport

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2015
To find optimized interfacial thermal couplers we study thermal transport though a one dimensional atomic chain which includes three parts--two semi-infinite leads and a center region acting as a thermal coupler. It is found that the spring constant and atomic mass of an interfacial coupler can be selected to maximize interfacial thermal conductance ...

Optimal Control of Thermal Power Plants

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1989
Application of optimal control system to thermal power plants is introduced. The suggested system consists of the conventional PID controllers and the control computer. It has been successfully applied to five supercritical power plants in Kyushu Electric Power Company (Total output 2,700 MW) since 1978.

Topology optimization of a passive thermal actuator

Fifteenth International Symposium on Quality Electronic Design, 2014
This paper presents a topology-optimized passive thermal micro actuator with large thermal deflection. The actuator relies on different coefficients of thermal expansion of an active material as well as the substrate and temperature changes of the surrounding environment. COMSOL Multiphysics is used for the topology optimization algorithm.

Modeling, Simulation, and Thermally Optimization of Thermally-Coupled Distillation Columns

International Journal of Chemoinformatics and Chemical Engineering, 2016
Distillation is one of the most widely used separation units that consumes the largest amount of energy in chemical and petrochemical industries. Heat integration of thermally coupled distillation column is one of the methods to reduce energy-consumption.

External optimization controller in optimal control of thermal power units

2012 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics, 2012
As a source of electricity production, the level of automation in thermal power units is increasing higher and higher due to the construction of smart power grids. The units in grids should be working in automatic generation control and primary frequency. The optimal control has changed to a hot spot in the industry.

Thermal resistance (Rth) enhancement by optimizing TO package thermal contact

2010 34th IEEE/CPMT International Electronic Manufacturing Technology Symposium (IEMT), 2009
The trend for package size shrinkage has created challenges to thermal performance while improving the cost performance. When TO package size shrink by minimizing the leadframe copper usage, challenges in package warpage and thermal contact become great.

An accurate simulation framework for thermal explorations and optimizations

Proceedings of the 2015 Workshop on Rapid Simulation and Performance Evaluation: Methods and Tools, 2015
While technology scaling allows to integrate more cores in the same chip, the complexity of current designs requires accurate and fast techniques to explore different trade-offs. Moreover, the increased power densities in current architectures highlight thermal issues as a first class design metric to be addressed.

Optimal Control of a Nonlinear Thermal System

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1989
Abstract An optimal control problem of a nonlinear theraal system is studied. The existence of an optimal solution is given. The problem is discretized by an implicit scheme in time and a finite elements method of first order in space. A convergence result of the discrete optimal solution towards the continuous optimal solution is worked out.
