Plasma-neutral interaction in thermally collapsed plasma
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1997A systematic experimental study of the power, length, and gas pressure dependence of plasma density and temperature profiles in thermally collapsed magnetized helium plasmas has been performed on the Princeton divertor simulator apparatus. The recombination edge and recombination radiation from highly excited levels (to n = 12) have been identified ...

Electrical arcs and, more generally thermal plasmas, are widely used in many applications and the understanding or the improvement of the corresponding processes or systems, often requires precise modelling of the plasma. We present, here, a double approach to thermal plasma modelling, which combines the scientific procedure with an engineering point ...

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 1991
A review is given of the fundamental aspects involved in material processing using thermal plasma technology. The description of plasma generating devices covers DC plasma torches, DC transferred arcs, RF inductively coupled plasma torches and hybrid combinations of them. Emphasis is given to the identification of the basic energy coupling mechanism in

Plasma sheath criterion in thermal electronegative plasmas
Journal of Applied Physics, 2010The sheath formation criterion in electronegative plasma is examined. By using a multifluid model, it is shown that in a collisional sheath there will be upper as well as lower limits for the sheath velocity criterion. However, the parameters of the negative ions only affect the lower limit.

Summary form only given. In this paper, a brief overview of the history of thermal plasma modeling will be presented, including the effects of turbulence and deviations from local thermodynamic equilibrium in certain parts of thermal plasma systems. Based on some typical examples, the development over the past 60 years will be illustrated, restricted ...
