Simulation and Control of Solar Thermal Power Plants

open access: yesRE&PQJ
In this paper, first the overall modeling approach for an optimized control of a hot-gas cycle for solar thermal power plants in the Modelica language is pointed out. The emphasis of the modeling work lies on the development of dynamic component models to be used in control systems. Depending on the control task, the discretization of the models

A Knowledge‐Based Approach for Understanding and Managing Additive Manufacturing Data

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing processes generate a large amount of data. Effectively managing, understanding, and retrieving information from this data remains a major challenge. Therefore, we propose an ontology‐based approach to integrate heterogeneous data, enable semantic queries, and support decision‐making.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Using biomonitors to evaluate soil and air pollution by natural radionuclides in thermal power plant and coal mining areas

open access: yes, 2017
Coal-fired power plants and coal mining are sources of soil and air pollution by radionuclides, as fossil fuels may contain natural levels of toxic and radioactive elements.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Regulating Greenhouse Gases from Coal Power Plants under the Clean Air Act [PDF]

open access: yes
The Clean Air Act has assumed the central role in U.S. climate policy, directing the Environmental Protection Agency to develop regulations governing the emissions of greenhouse gases from existing coal-fired power plants.
