Radiative bistability and thermal memory [PDF]
We predict the existence of a thermal bistability in many-body systems out of thermal equilibrium which exchange heat by thermal radiation using insulator-metal transition (IMT) materials. We propose a writing-reading procedure and demonstrate the possibility to exploit the thermal bistability to make a volatile thermal memory.

Degradation of Epoxy–Particles Composites Exposed to UV and Gamma Radiation
In the design and fabrication of any structural system for space application, balance between mass, stiffness and strength is crucial. Structures in space environments are exposed to high radiation levels and thermal shock, due to the sun irradiance and ...

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Near-field radiation assisted smart skin for spacecraft thermal control [PDF]
Thermal control is of critical importance for normal operation of spacecraft. Given thermal radiation is the only means of heat dissipation in space, an efficient thermal control approach for spacecraft is to coat the radiator with a tunable-emittance "skin" that can tune its heat dissipation according to various thermal conditions.
