A study on the thermal conductivity of compacted bentonites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Thermal conductivity of compacted bentonite is one of the most important properties in the design of high-level radioactive waste repositories where this material is proposed for use as a buffer.

Preliminary results of radon survey in thermal spas in V4 countries

open access: yesNukleonika, 2016
Radon concentration was measured in 11 thermal spas in Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia). The results showed that in 84% of spas radon activity concentration is less than 400 Bq·m−3.

Thermal conductivity of ordered molecular water [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2007
The authors use molecular dynamics simulation to investigate the thermal transport characteristics of water with various degree of orientational and translational orders induced by the application of an electric field. The authors observe that the orientational ordering of the water dipole moments has a minor effect on the thermal conductivity. However,

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Effect of Szigetvár Medicinal Water on HaCaT Cells Exposed to Dithranol

open access: yesLife
(1) Introduction: Topical dithranol is still commonly used today as an effective treatment for psoriasis. Dithranol treatment is often supplemented with balneotherapy, which has been shown to increase effectiveness and reduce side effects.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.
