Compound Heatwaves and Health Inequality: A Nationwide Study on Emergency Admissions and Socioeconomic Vulnerability in South Korea

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 10, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of extreme heat events. Despite the rising frequency of compound heatwaves (CHWs)—concurrent daytime and nighttime heat—evidence regarding cause‐specific risks and socioeconomic disparities remains limited.

Accounting for Variability Across Years, Depths, and Non‐Target Reads Improves Quantification of Root Community Composition in Plant Mixtures

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 7, October 2026.
ABSTRACT One key challenge in characterizing plant communities is determining the relative abundance of distinct species in root biomass. Metabarcoding is increasingly used to estimate a species' proportion in root mass based on its proportion in sample reads, but results have been mixed in accurately converting sequencing output to species mass in ...

Car‐Mounted Airborne eDNA Sampling Detects Landscape Scale Biodiversity Turnover Along Environmental Gradients

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 7, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Documenting accelerating global biodiversity decline requires monitoring tools that can operate across large spatial scales and repeated timeframes. Analysis of airborne environmental DNA (eDNA) is an emerging method used to track species distributions, but it is unknown whether airborne eDNA retains coherent ecological signals across ...

Neighbour Effects and Dynamics of Plant‐Associated Microbiomes in a Strip‐Crop System

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2026.
Distinct plant species differentially affect the assembly of host‐associated microbial communities in a strip‐crop system. Crop neighbouring effects on the microbiomes were highest at the edge of the strips, which further reveals reduced leaf pathogens.

Optimising Defoliation Frequency and Intensity to Enhance Forage Accumulation in Annual Ryegrass

open access: yesGrass and Forage Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, October/December 2026.
ABSTRACT To increase grazing efficiency, it is necessary to understand morphogenetic responses and how they drive forage harvest. Our objective was to evaluate defoliation frequency (time between defoliations required for the expansion of 2, 3 and 4 leaves) and intensity (low: maintenance of 50% stubble height; intermediate: maintenance of 25% stubble ...
