Flame retardant and thermal behavior of polylactide/expandable graphite composites

open access: yesPolimery, 2013
In this article expandable graphitewas used to produce fire retardant biobased poly- lactide. For this purpose,PLAblends with addition of 1, 5 or 10 wt.%of expandable graphite inter- calated with sulphuric acid (GR) were obtained using co-rotating twin screw extruder.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Intumescent compounds for fireproofing of polymer pipelines

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering, 2022
Reducing the rate of fire spread in buildings through the intersections of enclosing building structures with polymer pipelines is achieved by using fire clutches equipped with liners made of expandable materials.

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

Investigating the Liquid State of Carbon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Carbon materials have a many contemporary applications and new carbon allotropes are being discovered. However, while graphite and diamond are well understood, very little is known about the liquid state of carbon due to the high temperatures (above 5 ...

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed
