Improvement of thermal conductivity of paraffin by adding expanded graphite

open access: yesJournal of Composite Materials, 2015
This paper investigated the use of graphite with different configuration designs to improve the thermal energy storage of phase change material systems. Two types of graphite have been combined with paraffin in order to improve thermal conductivity of phase change material: synthetic graphite (Timrex SFG75) and graphite waste obtained from damaged ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Reconstruction of physical-vapor-transport SiC growth setup for large crystal height

open access: yesApplied Physics Express
Reducing SiC wafer cost requires higher usable crystal height and material yield. We reconstruct a single-coil RF-heated physical vapor transport (PVT)-SiC setup using low-cost graphite changes: (i) thermally equalizing insulation from multilayer ...

A strut with infinitely adjustable thermal expansivity and length [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
A tubular strut with an integral mechanism for adjusting its thermal expansivity and length was developed to fulfill the stringent thermal stability requirements anticipated for the metering truss in the Large Space Telescope.

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Raman Spectroscopic Identification of Oxide Phases in a Corroded MgO–Steel Composite Anode Used in Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐Raman spectroscopy is applied to characterize corrosion products in a recycled‐based MgO–316L steel composite anode after molten salt electrolysis. A depth‐dependent Fe–O/Fe–Al–O layer sequence of magnetite, hercynite, and an Al‐doped magnetite transition zone is identified.

Effect of thermal aging on the crystal structural characteristics of poly(tetra fluoro ethylene) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The residual effects of cumulative thermal aging on the crystal structural characteristics of the fluoro carbon poly(tetra fluoro ethylene) (PTFE) have been studied by X-ray diffraction methods.
