The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Anisotropic thermal conductivity and permeability of compacted expanded natural graphite [PDF]
The anisotropic thermal conductivities and permeabilities are investigated for discs and plates of compacted expanded natural graphite. The measuring directions of heat conductivity and permeability are both parallel and perpendicular to the pressing direction of compacted samples.

EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Reconstruction of physical-vapor-transport SiC growth setup for large crystal height
Reducing SiC wafer cost requires higher usable crystal height and material yield. We reconstruct a single-coil RF-heated physical vapor transport (PVT)-SiC setup using low-cost graphite changes: (i) thermally equalizing insulation from multilayer ...

Ordered water structure at hydrophobic graphite interfaces observed by 4D, ultrafast electron crystallography [PDF]
Interfacial water has unique properties in various functions. Here, using 4-dimensional (4D), ultrafast electron crystallography with atomic-scale spatial and temporal resolution, we report study of structure and dynamics of interfacial water assembly on

The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...
